“Honesty is such a lonely word,
Everyone is so untrue,
Honesty is hardly ever heard,
And mostly what I need from you”
Billy Joel wrote those lyrics in 1978. I really wonder what he thinks about honesty today?
One of the real epidemics today is lying. It’s destroying our society, and true to form in this pretend generation, it’s been given different names and has taken on many forms.
The word “gaslighting” is a popular term today to describe lying that’s used to psychologically manipulate. Isn’t that what lying is anyway? In my opinion it’s a word that sanitizes and softens the accusation of just calling out someone or some group a liar.
We tolerate a constant barrage of blatant lies from media, politicians, education, Hollywood, and now, the public. Yes, us.
Day after day I see social media posts on many platforms that are straight up lies. People monetizing sites and trolling for clicks by posting headlines that are pure lies. Fake AI generated videos, pictures, and stories that either push agendas or draw viewers for money. Once reputable sites now exaggerate daily events to pull in viewers and even worse, the headline does not match what the video is about. It’ all manipulation and lies to keep the viewers coming.
With all this lying, none of us trust anything we see or hear. So what’s the result?
From a sociopolitical point of view, division, hatred, anxiety, and chaos. Everyone will ultimately pick something as “their truth” based on what they think or what their feelings are. The sad part is, many no longer care what the real truth is even when it’s presented to them. They are married to the lie and they simply call the truth a lie because it fits their pretend world.
Now the warning. Beyond the destruction of our civilization, is the destruction of the soul. Scripture clearly tells us liars will not enter the kingdom of heaven. If you’re lying to make money, further an agenda, hurt others, or for any other reason, you need to stop. Not only for the sake of the world, but your eternal soul…
Rev 22:12-15 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
The words of 2 Tim 3 are leaping of the page describing our current global state with 100% accuracy…
Godlessness in the Last Days
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
2Ti 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God
2Ti 3:10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
2Ti 3:11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
2Ti 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
2Ti 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
